Brooks saddle - worth saving? Possible even?

'Chuckling to myself'... a Brooks saddle I bought on ebay UK has just arrived. It''s horrible. Rusty, cracked and... well, horrible. All part of the learning curve, I suppose.

Can anyone identify the model? Or the approximate year? The base is too rusty to see any date mark.

Can it be saved? Has anyone tried on something as bad as this? How would I start?

I'll take a stab at it. It's my guess that it's either a B66 or a Flyer. I'm more inclined to think it's a B66 just based on its undercarriage.

Yikes, looks like it was recovered from the Titanic. Reminds me of the vintage Royal typewriter I once bought on eBay.

There should be a date code stamped on the metal frame. You still might be able to see it under all the rust......

As for the saddle, it'll make a nice garage decoration.....

It would take an act of God. Let it R.I.P.

Too wide for a Flyer... just bought one of those for my Dawes. So. a B66...

Rust is easy: oxalic acid. Makes that part look as good as new.

As for the leather itself, not sure. Looks pretty far gone. Do you have a brother-in-law you can let ride it for a while to see if it is sound?
