Peugeot info needed....
 

I'm going to "renew" a Peugeot Triathlon for a very nice lady, but don't want to work in the dark.
It's a red Peugeot, steel frame, labeled "triathlon" on the top tube. Appears early 80's.
Campy crankset and brakes. Shimano gearing and hubs, 700c rims.

I'd never seen one before, and will have it in next week to disassemble, clean and lube, then to the LBS for some lube/truing/adjustments.

Any info would be truly appreciated.

I had a 1986 Triathlon. Had the Maillard Helicomatic rear hub which reqires a special tool for removal.

Which means I'll be leaving that on, I guess. I'm going to take it apart, get it clean and lubed, adjusted for her and give it back. She's using those Shimano pedals that have the triangular "wings" plus the resin toe clips, and asked what kind of cleat to buy. I have no idea.

I don't think Triathalons had Campy anything when new. My brother had an '87 or '88 with Shimano 105. Yours sounds older though.

1986 was the first year for the Triathlon model. It was spec'd with Stronglight cranks, Huret derailleurs and Modolo brakes and a Helicomatic rear hub. Color choisec were either Tulip Red or White.

For 1987 it was equipted with a full Shimano 105 group and only available in a two tone blue/white.

Thanks for the info, everyone. It really helps to know someone has been at it before.

If you all will hold this thread until Monday or Tuesday, I'll try to have the bike in the garage and specs and details. If I lend her my Cinelli to ride in the meanwhile, I'll get it done quicker, I'm sure.

After that, advice will likely be solicited and most welcome. I think I can lighten it some, and at the minimum, remove some bike shop stickers and make it shiny happy again.

My goal is to have her think of it as a new bike, or decide I deserve first crack at it if she ever sells it.
I don't think it's been gone through since well before she bought it.

My fee will be the look on her face after that first ride on a tuned, lubed, clean and happy ride.

Plus, my UO-8 mixte is calling me to unpack and get crackin. The parts are in, just need the time, and Peugeot experts are just a click away.
