VINTAGE Pinarello Question
Not sure of the model....Pinarello: 6 speed w/ panagraphed cranks, stem, post, etc. Nice lugged Columbus steel frameset. OK-there are two water bottle braze-ons and, here's the question, there are two more screws on the seat tube tapped into the tube. They are threaded. Look original but.... Is this aftermarket barney move or did Pinarello put these screws for pumps or ?? Thanks

pics would help clarify things: are you saying there are 3 sets of water bottle bosses? Or two sets and some other "screws" in the seat tube? In any case, it would be a little unusual for a bike from the 6-speed era to have extra WB fittings.

1 set of braze-ons on the down tube and two holes with screws in them on the seat tube about where a water bottle cage would mount....the holes are threaded so they are not sheet metal screws...I'll try to get some pics.......Worst case is I fill em in and match the paint.....

Somebody may have installed "riv-nuts", a kind of threaded insert installed like a pop rivet. If they did a really clean job you might just leave them, plugged with some SS button-head bolts it'll look nearly invisible. But, there's a chance that the threads are not metric if it was a home-job...so go slow.

I've come across this situation in the past as well. My frame was originally a one biddon frame that a previous owner 'converted' to a 2 biddon frame. The new seat tube holes were drilled then tapped to M5. The bottle cage was then mounted to the frame.
I stripped the paint from the frame in the area of the holes then plugged the holes and brazed the plugs in place. I cleaned up the brazed areas with a file and emery paper before re-painting the frame.
I did this to (1) restore the original frame configeration, and (2) as the tube wall thickness really didn't support a thread.
An auto painter will easily replicate the original frame colour.
