What is this?

It is clearly a POS. I bought it only for the old-style cable speedometer. However, I have never seen derailleurs like this (at least the make). The front is the old campy/simplex push-rod style. The head badge appears to have the statue of liberty on it (it is faded). There are no other marks/serial numbers or anything. I was going to assume some sort of mid-sixties department-store bike, but it has a proper cottered bottom bracket. The steel handlebars are more track-style. The lugs appear to be chiseled out of gas pipe with a screw driver and a large rock.

Anyone venture a guess before I send it off to be melted into Toyotas?

Is it a corky? on another note I'd love to see pics of your 68 super corsa I think I have a 68 or 69 in my garage.

The Gitane is disassembled and awaiting the proper Campy derailleur hanger bolt. After that, it is going on the sale block as the frame is a bit too small and I need to clear some things out. Years ago, I had removed most of the very gaudy chrome & sky blue stickers. I regret that now, but I think it looks better now than before without them. When I get it back together, I'll post it.

Is that the statue of liberty on the headtube, or someone doing a nazi salute?

It's one of those bikes that's interesting and horrible at the same time.

It's a shed!

It looks like one of those cheap imports that used to be listed in comic books in the early 70's. You could either buy them outright, or sell cards for the "Olympic Sales Club". Strip it down and sell the frame and bar as "fixie" parts on Ebay.

My first thoughts as well Torchy....it looks like Hitler is on the front of the bike!

I think it is the Statue of Liberty.

No it is a wood pile NEAR the shed.

It is interesting and horrible at the same time. It would be nice if I had an old italian frame about to put the POS derailleurs on as a joke. I do have a french frame, but they used worse components than these.

Doing a google search, I come up with Schwinn/Chicago Cycle Statue of Liberty headbadges that don't look anything like that. Also a German bike:
"The brand plate lists"Standard Deluxe" Made in Germany. It has what appears to be the statue of Liberty stamped between the words. The bike has 26" ballon tires. It also has a Komet special coaster brake and hub. The hub has a flip open oiling port, all is crome. ...It has triangle shaped trim on the rear fender and each fork..." Obviously not anything like your bike, but a slight possibility of the same manufacturer.
