new bike

I need some help,
The frame on my beloved Panasonic Dx 2000 is twisted as result of a car collision. In your opinions, what would be a good vintage bike to fit it's place (besides other DX models I'm looking at)? I'm also looking at a Vitus, however I've heard these had problems with the lugs (even though the model I'm looking at is lugless). I was just wondering what would be a good 10/12/14 speed to fill it's place? a fuji? an 80's cannondale? A Peugeot?

I'm kind of limited to around 500 as a college student and even though I thought myself to be a fairly good shopper for bikes I'm feeling alittle bit overwhelmed.

Any help anyone could afford would be greatly appreciated.

What size are you looking at?

ideal would be 57 to 60 cm

But then again I'm not looking for help picking one out specifically. I'm just looking for feedback on brands and years of bikes. Sorry if that was unclear.

There are so many bikes with so many differing opinions on them that you'll actually get better feedback if you do in fact ask about specific ones you have in mind (e.g. your Vitus thread).

You might also want to browse the C&V forum for threads with similar questions to yours - there are lots and lots with bike recommendations. Your budget of $500 can get you a very nice vintage ride.

There's a Panasonic for sale on Hartford Craigs List now.
