Best prep for powdercoat job?

How do you prepare a frame for powdercoating (I'm thinking of having one sand- or beadblasted and powdercoated); I mean, after stripping it of all components, should I plug all the 'holes' (and what with?), could I leave the BB as I'll be replacing it afterwards anyway? Also, will a d.i.y. spraycan clearcoat after putting on decals and lettering ruin the aspect of a professional paintjob?

Thanks,

Joe

Usually the powdercoater will prep the frame before painting it. You could sand it completely down and make sure there's no rust or anything left on the frame before it gets bead blasted before powdercoating. As for the headtube and bottom bracket holes, the painter should take care of those.

Not sure about the spray clearcoat; probably would be okay since the powdercoat is unlikely to react with it. I'd try it out first on a scrap piece of metal. Or have the powdercoater clearcoat the frame after the decals are put on.

Check out this link on the process of repainting a frame at Dave Yates' shop.
