What is this De Rosa worth?
 

I'm looking to purchase a 1994 De Rosa made with Columbus SLX with full Campagnolo Chorus components. It is in good/excellent condition. What do you think this might be worth?

It's mainly to know what I should pay for this bike. It's for satisfaction purposes. It's definitely in great condition. There are a couple of rock chips and that is it. The paint is still a shiney red. Here are some pics. Hmm...not too sure on how to post pics but here's the link.

I'd say he feels it's a little high, thus the B.O. behind that 1100. Make him an offer you are comfortable with.

Then again, it's in San Francisco where everything marginally vintage or collectible commands a premium. I wouldn't be surprised if it was sold in the first 2 hours it was listed.

Thats a nice bike. I think that to be in the running as a bidder on the bike, you may need to come fairly close to his asking price to walk away with it. I say that because De Rosa has a strong following so I think people will be on it like white on rice. Like I said, I think. The price does’nt sound too bad to me, probably a panto’d stem and a branded saddle. If you can talk to the seller and get a good repoir with them, that could help you as well. Seeing as how the prices have been soaring, there was a frame/fork that sold for$860 recently, I don't think that's out of line, especially in SF.

It's more than I would like to spend, but if the condition was good and the fit was right, I would be very tempted.

If I was in SF I'd run (not walk) over with 10 $100 bills in my hand, and another couple in my pocket, in case it's as nice as he says.

So I took ran over there like Old Fat Guy said to do and purchased the bike. The paint and chrome are in blinging condition except for a few minor rock chips. No rust anywhere. Full Campy Chorus 8 speed. Campy Omega Strada wheelset, Panto De Rosa stem, and a San Marco De Rosa saddle. What kind of paint should I use to touch up the chips? Does anyone know the actual year of the frame? There are no serial numbers on the bike. It looks close to Ray Dobbin's bike except it doesn't have the "Trophee Super Prestige Arc en Ciel Eddy Merckx..." on the top tube. It has De Rosa there instead.

You done real good. I'd buy it at that price in a heartbeat. Did you pay full price, or get it a bit cheaper?

It looks to be about a 1987 or so to me.


Use Testors enamel model paint to touch it up, I can't remember which shade of red I used on my wife's De Rosa, you may have to try a couple shades to match it properly.

What a gem! I've got two of these little hot rods. My 1997 SLX is red as well, with full eight speed Dura Ace. What a wonderful ride it provides. As far as the serial number look on the bottom bracket shell between the cable guides. Take the number down, go to the Derosa web site, and email customer service. I received a response within two days. By the way, please ride the wheels off that thing!:thumb:

I wouldn't touch it up. Just wax it well. If you are wanting this to escalate in price, try and keep it original.

If you want it to look nice, but still not have model paint or touch-up paint on it to deter from value, you can try using red crayon -- you may have to play around with softening the crayon (leave it out in the sun) and using a toothpick to apply it into the dings/scratches -- then wax -- dings/scratches won't be as obvious (if done well) yet easily reversible.
