Need advice 1984 pinarello or 1990's Zunow Z-1?

1984 pinarello or 1990's Zunow Z-1 both about my size I think.

Which is better and what is a fair price?

Better is a relative term......Some like Italian and some like Japanese rarities. Me personaly? Italian. And I don't know what a fair price for either would be. They are both probably to rich for my blood! I would be excited to have either in my stable though. If the price was the same and they both fit me I'd go Italian.....

I've been trying to arrange a test ride with the pinarello. The guy put it up for sale but says he is too busy to sell it!

It is a tough choice they are both nicely detailed lugged bikes.

Ya, I really like those Zunow's with the hummingbird cutouts and all the fine details. The wild paint is cool too. Just doesn't have the classy factor like the Pinarello though....Tell that guy you have cash in hand and you want it now. He can miss dinner to pull the kind of change it will cost to pry it from his hands. I hate that! Why list it if you're not going to sell it?

Both, duh.

Zunows are rarer than Pnarellos of the eighties... much rarer. Possibly better made, too.

A Zunow is a handmade masterpiece, a Pina of that era is nice, but also 'just' the product of a small factory. Also, if the parts are original, its probably not a top model, so no comparison, really.

Do both bikes come with all original parts? This is an important consideration for price, and may be important for you also.
Personally, I would go for the Pinarello. But I'm biased since I also think Italians are really hot . . .

zunow, no question about it

All original parts.

But the pinarello comes with shimano 105 not Campi, like all Itilian lovers would prefer.

Zunow comes with shimano 600 parts.

FWIW, I found the original listing for the Zunow, and that is a fair price, if straight.

From the photos, make double sure the fork isn't tweaked. Almost look like it has been in a light "front ender." Might also be evidence on the down tube and top tube. Look on the bottom side of each, near the head tube lugs, to see if there are circumferential paint cracks. Close your eyes, and run your fingers slowly over these regions too. What might not be obvious to the eye can often be felt. Good luck.

I believe that the Pinarello is a Tre Tubi model.

I also think that I passed on that Zunow last year from another seller for $200 because I wanted another bike he had, and I already have TOO MANY bikes. I am still kicking myself!! It IS worth $600.
