I need a TA crank puller

Can anyone point me to one of these. I have a TA crank from about 1973. I know I need a larger puller, but can't find one anywhere on the interhighway.

Thanks,
ieye

Parktool?

I needed/wanted a larger puller as well and ParkTool sent me to http://www.biketoolsetc.com/ where I found a VAR puller that would have worked if it wasn't out of stock.

Here's a link to the French VAR tools page with a link to download their English version of their catalog:

I got a new one on ebay not long ago...

If you can find a Parktool CCP-1, it has 22mm and the larger 23mm threading you want for TA crank removal.

Velo-Orange also has a 23mm and 22mm combo puller.

You won't find a better deal than the $25 VAR tool from Velo Orange. I paid twice that for my T.A. branded extractor. The VAR is better quality, too.

For the record - I'm always available to any local Miami C&V'er that needs a TA crankset pulled. Was lucky enough to acquire a CCP-1 about a year ago.

In a pinch, I've had good success using a cheapo gear puller that I acquired from the local auto parts store.

Leave that for the 23.35 Stronglights ;)

Yeah - I'm a firm believer in using the right tool for the job, especially if it is relatively cheap to acquire. But I was in a hurry, and it was a one-off deal. The gear puller worked ok, and got me moving forward again.

Bigbossman,

I hear ya. That's how I got the Stronglight 93 off my Tour de France and got the bike refurbished before I was finally able to find a proper Stronglight tool. Works just fine, although it scared the hell out of me when the chainwheel side finally loosened up (it'd been on, I assume, since the bike was new). Sounded like a .22 going off the way it cracked.

Thanks guys, I was hoping for something besides velo orange... I don't like them so much.

Hmmm, sorry, I've had good luck with them...

Harris maybe? Loose Screws, or whatever they became? I think I got my 2-sided Park crank tool at the local shop years ago, but maybe obsolete now?

Couple possibilities at Harris:

Try the one at the bottom of this page. I think Stronglight and TA had the same thread (anyone know?):

Stronlight and T.A. extractors are close, but not the same.

Mel Pinto has some cool stuff. I had forgotten that site.

First time I've heard someone say that ... Chris K. of Velo Orange is a great guy in my experience. He gave me nothing but good customer service and good advice, more of both than I deserved since I didn't buy that much and I was probably an annoying customer (bought wrong thing, needed to exchange for something out of stock, etc.).

That said, I have a Park CCP-1 (got it used from bikeville.com) and I like having something with a handle, not like the TA crank tools that you turn with a wrench. No doubt I would slip and scratch the bike.
