Compact Crankset for Club Fuji

I recently upgraded my 1984 Club Fuji, adding an 8-speed cassette 11/28 to the existing drivetrain (Sugino GLP and SunTour Cyclone non-STS). I cannot get up the steep hills behind Oakland using my current 52/42 chainrings. As I don't want to have to keep getting off and walking up the hills, I've decided that I need to put on a compact crankset.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to which compacts would be compatible with this bike? I'd quite like to stick a SRAM Rival in there, but don't know if the new bottom bracket will fit. The bike is English threaded with a 68mm shell.

Short-term, there's a 50/36 SunTour Mighty Tour Compact Crankset 110bcd on the Bay that I'm thinking would work.

So, do you guys have any recommendations, and does anyone have any thoughts about the Mighty Tour?

"Compact" is really just Shimano marketing speak for 110mm BCD, which they forced out of the market with their 130BCD standard only to re-introduce it later as an "innovation." There were a few odd-ball Sugino cranksets (like the GLP) that were made on the old Campy standard of 144 BCD, but virtually everything else they made for road bikes was a 110. Find another Sugino crank and it will suit your needs nicely, lots of the other models are even drilled for triple chainrings (VP, VT, etc) I have a GLP on my similarly equipped Club and I quite like it, If you are interested in a trade I've got a few of the smaller BCD cranks kicking around, let me know.

Thanks for your response and the offer. I want to hang on to my GLP in case I eventually decide to put all the original components back on the Club. Since my original post I've looked around and like the idea of the Sugino XD500 Compact, or squeezing on a Campy Centaur Compact. Short-term the old Sugino Mighty Tour would work.
