Flickstand installation question
 

I've just installed a Flickstand on my '80s Univega. But I'm not certain how tight it needs to be against the front wheel. Should it be tight enough to keep the wheel from rolling at all? Right now it keeps the wheel from turning side-to side, but the wheel can roll backward, and even forward a little if the tire is wet. Do I need to snug it up tighter against the wheel, or is it supposed to be this way? I bought the Flickstand used and it came without any instructions, so I took my best guess on how to do it based on pictures I found online of bikes with Flickstands installed.

back when I used one, I made it so it was fairly tight against the tire: the wire bail presses enough to flatten the tire, a little, where it touches. Done right, it makes the bike into a rigid unit you can lean against a wall, doesn't roll and the front wheel won't flop. You can get it so you roll the wheel to kick the bail off and then fold it all the rest of the way up manually.

If you can "flick" the stand without rotating the wheel it is too loose. Set up correctly it is a "roll-on, roll-off" situation.

It should be tight enough against the front wheel so it does not move at all. They worked really well , during their era.

just be careful on the collar, it tends to split down the top side.
