1979 Schwinn Collegiate
Well... I made a post about it a few weeks ago asking all of you what year it was and you told me it was made in 1979. And then after some research I found out the Sturmey Archer 3-Speed was made in 1978. Well, a few of you wanted pictures, and I want to share them. This bike has a lot of meaning to my girlfriend and I want to fix it up, but, she seems to want to keep it the way it is. I mean, I like the old look of it and all... but... I really want to clean it up, bring it back to life, and make a commuter bike out of it. As a whole it weighs less than my current bike (Murray 10-Speed I cleaned up) and I can't imagine putting a basket or rack on it would make it weigh equal.
I just HATE that she wants to let it sit like that. It could be such a nice bike cleaned up. Especially if I could get the decals back and give it a nice professional (well... personally done, but, I'm pretty good at painting if I set my mind to it, and my dad is even better) paint job. And I would absolutely love to ride it to work and back. I love the way it sits and rides (I haven't ridden it much, and the cable for the hub broke so it's stuck in third gear).
Ah well...
Give me some ideas all.
And I'll attach some pics.
