Hello, I ran across this site searching google for Trek 1400 info. I bought this bike back in high school, mowed a LOT of yards to pay for it. It's either an '89 or a '90, the paperwork is back at my parents' house.
I had sold it to a coworker six or seven years go, but I bought it back after getting back in to biking - road-riding on a mountain bike was just not fun. Unfortunately he had pretty much let it go - the seat and bar tape were in tatters, rear tire rotted out
Still has a couple of cosmetic issues, but it's been putting a smile on my face for a few weeks now. I think there's a lot of good mileage left in 'er.

Welcome to C&V. Yeah, I think you're in the right place. Congrats on finding your former steed. There are many posts about those who lament selling their old bike and with they could find it. It's nice to read about someone who actually found their former bike. I wouldn't sweat the tires, saddle and bar tape, they're all expendable. As long as the frame is good, you're in business.

Welcome to C and V! You are in the right place.
That Volvo looks like one my brother used to have right down to the paint. It was ugly but not even he could kill that thing.

You may be able to date the bike and find the original specs and catalogue here: https://vintage-trek.com/

Thanks for the kind welcome
Roccobike, I'm southeast of Raleigh, just on the edge of Wake County. Most of the roads around me are 45-55 mph two-lanes, so I'm still a bit nervous about riding on them.
Koala - we're a bit of a Volvo family in case you couldn't tell
cooker - I checked there, that same paint scheme was available both years. I bought it some time freshman year, so I don't remember if it's a leftover '89 or not.
I haven't taken better pics because there's some surface rust on the components, enough to tick me off that I sold the guy a mint bike and got back what I did. Is ebay my best hope for replacements, or are there some places that specialize in older components? Everything but the headset is 105.

Welcome to C&V. Be thankful you got your bike back. Wish I still had mine but an altercation with a tow truck back around '96 put an end to that. Still wish I had kept it as it might have been salvageable with modern technology like bikeforums and eBay Looks like it won't take that much to get yours back into shape.

The same frame, same color, 58cm, is under my back porch in Nash County.
I believe that year found the 1400 and the 2000 sharing the same frame, but not graphics or components.
Welcome to C&V.

Was the 2000 back then aluminum or carbon mix? I know the 1500 had a nicer aluminum frame and 600 components, and the 2300 was carbon/aluminum, but I don't remember the 2000. It's been a while
I hope to gather some parts for replacement here and there, but in the meantime just enjoy the bike as-is. It's absolutely shocking how much has changed. I think the front Vittoria on my bike is a 700x19c - a work buddy who has a beautiful Cervelo was amazed we rode tires that skinny. And does everyone have handlebars that wide now?

On the bright side, bar tape, saddle and tires are easily changed out. As long as the bike itself is in pretty good condition... that's all that matters!
Now ride that front tire off and replace it too!
