Cyclops info

I'm going to look at a Cyclops this afternoon and was hoping to get any information you all might have. The great Gazoogle hasn't been coming through for me. I gather they are (were?) a small Canadian frame shop and did lots of custom work.

The owner told me that it has mostly c-record 7 speed, that it was a team bike, it needs new tires, I probably won't want the pedals, and it doesn't come with a seat bag. Assuming it's as dreamy as I hope it is, the price seems reasonable.

Anybody have Cyclops knowledge?

No Cyclops info, but if you can pick up most of a C-Record group for $250, that would be a pretty good deal.

I have had a few and now am down to one, a Reynolds 753 Match Sprint track bike.

Cyclops were built by Mike Mulholland & Sons, first in Toronto then in Vernon BC and then back in Ontario. They were all custom made so it is not likely to see too many built exactly the same. They are foremost race bikes so they are not built as "precious" as the trend now with custom builders and they range from very nice to very odd as they experimented with new designs.

I have more info and if you pick up the bike I can fill you in. I personally would pay $250 just for the frame if it fit me.

I have seen a Cyclops up close and they are very finely crafted frames, certainly worth $250 for the frame alone.

vjp, do you happen to have pics of your Cyclops track frame? It sounds nice and 753 is pretty rare....

I went ahead and got it. The parts are quite a mix not mostly c-record, but good stuff. the frame itself fits me like a glove and rides very nice. There's a good sized ding on the down tube, but it doesn't seem too bad.

The woman I bought it from raced it and it is definitely not a garage queen. Pics and details tonight.

Well here are a couple of pics. Perhaps someone can tell me more about what I have here.

The parts seem to be quite a mix, but seem to all work nicely together.

Frame tubing= double butted True temper rc2
Stem and Bars= Cinelli
Shifters= Campag 7 speed indexed. Looks like C-Record
Brake levers= Look like C-Record. A fair amount of road rash
Calipers= ????. Look like the Mirage monoplanar from Velobase with different bolts and barrel adjusters
Rear mech= Looks like C-record. A good bit of road rash.
Front mech= Suntour GPX in rough shape, (but shifted fine on my test ride)
Crankset= Shimano 600 (tricolor)
Front wheel= Shimano 600 laced to Matrix rim
Rear wheel= Dura Ace laced to matrix rim

Any idea what these calipers are?

I also got a matching team jersey with the sleeves cut off. Classy.

Thinking about acquiring one of these myself. Anyone have any insight or info about this bike? Its dirty, and I haven't seen it personally, but apparently the frame is in good shape...

Is it a Cyclops???

It is not unusual to run across a Cyclops that isn't a Cyclops. Mike often painted bicycles for people and indicated that he did so with the decal that appears on the orange bike you are considering.

I am no expert on the Cyclops bicycle but I have seen a few and I do own one. The one I own was built specifically for an individual and is so documented on the frame set. Your decal indicated paint only - be careful.

I have already witnessed two bikes identified as Cyclops by the art work but neither was actually a Cyclops. Take the time to look closely at the lugs and drops for anything unusual in the aesthetics dept. The lugs on my Cyclops are a bit unique in appointment.

luck.

All that said, the C-Record stuff is worth the price alone. Have fun and good luck.

Info About Ken Legge?

Thanks Randy,

Sorry to bridge this over two different threads.. Although it appears you found both of them.

Do you know anything about Ken Legge?

I dont see anything that is likely C-record on the orange bike or the original 2008 thread blue/green bike. The R derailler on the blue/green bike is more likely 2nd gen Athena or similar. Perhaps the syncro shifters on it were a c-record parts bin item, but that hardly qualifies it as a c-record equipped bike.

I just picked up a 1992 Vernon B.C. Cyclops that was commissioned by Rob Price of Barrie Ontario. It is Columbus SLX and finished in a beautiful vintage Burgundy and Gold. It has only three seasons on it and is in fantastic condition. I will post pics as soon as I get it dusted off. I still can,t believe my luck. It is my size and everything. I would have built it up no matter the size and hung it as wall art.
