Yet another Schwinn Worldsport thread

Hey Everybody!

My fiancee has an old Schwinn Worldsport that was purchased for her by her dad used. She has had the bike for a while but we have just gotten back into riding, and I purchased a new road bike and would like to fix hers up for her. The badge says 1478, its black with worldsport written in white and underlined in a turquoise color. The Schwinn is also written in the same turquoise. The shifters are Shimano light action, the derailer is Shimano SS, and the crank looks like (its faded) MP110. It has a couple spots that need to be sanded and painted (slight rust) and I need to clean it up. What else can I do to bring this bike back to life, and make it enjoyable to ride. How can I check if the frame is still true? Any information on the bike or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks

Clean it up/lube everything, get a chain tool break the chain/clean/re-lube and ride. Add new brake pads. Don't get too carried away.

The model you have is a good grocery getter/commuter.

Thanks, for the information. This is exactly what I wanted to know.

We just got in a Schwinn World at work (HFH ReStore, a nice place to work :) Got my Centurion Expert the same way) which, aside from a missing saddle looks to be in good shape. All SunTour components, but low end stuff since the World was the entry level model. (More of a recreational bike really, despite the drop handlebars - it has the double action brake levers.) I'll bring in a seat and ride it home Saturday. :)

1478 = 147th day of 1978 although Schwinn made the World Sport in 1979.

I'd take it apart and check all the bearings and repack them as needed. It should not take you too long to do and the bike will ride smoother.

Are you sure? I thought the light action equipment was found on the late eighties model. We need to check the Findley file.

Show a picture as I suspect it is a 1988. I have one of those floating around here someplace. A picture will decide the year. Roger

You are correct Roger. The color of the logo is incorrect for a 70's bike. My bad
