My new brakes
I just got one step closer to my weight weenie build. I'm really excited. I just wanted to post some pics of my new brakes 'cause they are sooooooo cool!
The calipers are CLB "Spacelines". I love the cheesy 80's styling. They are crazy light too. Just a hair off of 200 grams for the pair with pads and hardware! The levers are Modolo Kronos. They are crazy light as well tipping the scale at 137.4 grams without hoods (which will not be installed). It's kind of funny that they kind of match. I haven't even considered what the thing will look like when complete. Just buying the light stuff with no regards to looks. Just weight. Ya so anyways.....Here they are: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3148/...297633fa_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3280/...c38fbd15_o.jpg My next part to hunt down is an aluminum 6 speed freewheel (hint, hint) |
what are the details on the rest of the bike?what frame ya usin'?
|
I have a bonded aluminum frame branded as a Dura All that's similar to an early Vitus, Topline cranks, Modolo resin shifters, Nylfor plastic headset and a Huret Jubilee RD. Still on the list to acquire are a front derailleur, aluminum 6 speed freewheel, wheels, pedals, chain, neck, bars and a seat. Well some cable too. I'll be getting some aluminum CLB cable soon though. Geez.....I guess I wasn't as close as I thought. Did I forget anything?
|
My Motobecane came with a 5 speed aluminum freewheel. Couldn't tell you what brand (that was 1979); what I do recall is it lasted for about 200 miles. But I guess durability isn't what you're going for. Sounds like a fun project.

No offence, but they'd have to be the ugliest sidepull brakes I've ever seen. Yuck!

To be perfectly honest the whole build will be ugly and will probably ride like a wet noodle. The frame is anodized champagne, it has a white headset, black brakes, silver cables, and polished cranks. Weight is the only consideration other than being relatively vintage. 80's anyway... |
plastic headset...haha. Those brakes look plastic too, I agree the bike will probably look pretty ugly but I look forward to seeing it!
