can anyone tell me what the proper brake levers and grips might be for this old 3 speed i just picked up?the guy who had it said it was from 1937?

Why do you think the ones on it aren't original?

What is the date on the rear hub?

Those look like late seventies Weinmann/Dia Compe levers. The shifter makes the bike much older than that, so you're right. I don't have an answer to your question, though.

The levers on my 1937 Raleigh Sports are the fairly standard steel variants that Raleigh put on their 3-speeds for decades. I can take a closer pic than this if you need it.

That is a Schwinn New World with Superior cranks on it. They were introduced in I believe 1940/41. Show a picture of the seat collar and I can tell you if it is pre or post war. The pre wars are brazed to the seat post and the post wars are clamps that can come off. This is a picture of my 1941 and if you click on it the picture will enlarge and you can see the original levers. These are very good chrome-moly fillet brazed frames and were two steps below a Paramount. Roger
