suntour compe-v
Did they make a Compe-v rear derailleur in the 70's?

IIRC, This was the companion FD for the V Luxe/GT RD.I have a pair of them on different bikes, as I like the 'backwards' shifting.

Three of my bikes have Compe-V fronts, here is the rear derailleurs they are paired with:
1972 Fuji Finest - Suntour V 1973 Fuji Special Road Racer - Suntour V luxe Gt 1981 Fuji Gran Toure - Suntour Vx It would appear to me that the Compe V is not a group, just a component that was paired w/other V* rear derailleurs. There was a front Vx derailleur, though. The Compe V on the 1972 Fuji Finest has a cage that appears to be galvanized, or some other treatment, rather than chromed like on the other two. I like the hi-normal, really, after you ride around on it a while, it really makes a lot of sense, since the spring force of the derailleur is used when typically shifting under less load (upshifting) and manual force is used when you may be under load (down shifting), one can apply extra force. |
Somebody should also mention that this front derailleur is also a very tough durabe unit. Its going to take a lot of effort to bend the cage.
Suntour Derailleurs are the best. I hope Campy fans never catch on and keep the value of Suntour artificially low. I am supposed to be getting two NOS Suntour this week...I can't wait. |
Thanks for the info folks!
I've got a Suntour Vx in the rear and a Compe-V in the front. I was kinda thinking about trying to match the models if they had been a group... |
