Toe clips, steel or alloy?

Yeah, I'm a toe clip and strap guy still. Anyway, I notice that it is one area where steel seems to be used still over alloy. Is it a strength issue? Or are they so light either way that people don't care about the weight? I doubt it since most people care about the weight in EVERYTHING! :-)
Thanks.

Since the toe clip can scrape on the ground when inserting the second foot, the alloy won't hold up as well as the steel.

I had some alloy Christophe clips back in the day. It wasn't long before the tongue (not sure what else to call it) broke off. I'm not a metalurgist, but I don't think alloy has the right properties for a thin, bendy part. Spring steel does.

Makes sense. Thanks.
