What a shame.....Merckx

Well, here is a Merckx I picked up that is in great need of some TLC. It's totally equipped with Shimano 600 (tri color) components. Would anyone ride this bike "as is." You can see it was in a crash that bent the toptube. The fork doesn't seem to be damaged but I'll take a closer look tomorrow. It's a real shame to since it is a pro bike. The seller wouldn't admit to crashing it, though he said he was the OG owner, even when I pointed out the bent top tube. OH well, it was pretty cheap and I can always use the components.

if you bought it through ebay, paypal dispute it / ebay resolution

if you bought it in person you have only yourself to blame

I'd ride it in the meantime, but I'd plan to repair it.

I don't understand?

Gr23932 purchased the bike in person. He is pleased with his acquisition. He's only asking if anyone else would ride the bike in this condition, and if not, what would it take to get the bike to rideable condition.

It was apparently worth the purchase price just for the components.

I've ridden worse.
As long as you don't hammer hard you're good for casual riding. But I'd get it fixed anyway.

Okay .

Gr, I don't think I'd ride it in that condition myself. You are probably braver than I, but you do have young children and a wife who depend on you .

+1

When I saw it I immediately thought it would be great for the wife since it is pink, but since she does have a magenta Merckx bike(also pro frame) with a full SR group, I went on ahead and bought it even with the damaged top tube. I managed to get the price lowered to about 1/3 of what the seller was asking for it with my battered French. I'm really not too interested in having it repaired, since I have "enough" bikes already; per the wife. I'm going to give my F.Moser an upgrade with the 600 components and contact a BF member who was at one time looking for some reliable components for cheap(free).
