help with 70-73 Peugeot Mixte
7 Attachment(s)
Good Evening All,
I'm working on renovating an early 70s peugeot mixte, and I have a couple of questions: 1. Is there an adjusting barrel on the rear cablestop? The cable stops shown in the pic are the only ones that came on the bike. 2. I want to replace the steel crankset with a cotterless alloy one. I have a 70s motobecane that has an alloy crankset -- is that likely to be compatible, size-wise? Thank you! John |
I don't think the rear brake has an adjusting barrel, but I'll have to dig through the parts I took off my wife's bike. The Peugeot has a french threaded bottom bracket so you;ll probably need a square taper BB that's french. Depending on the year, the Motobecane is probably Swiss. Do a forum search, there's a lot of discussion on this topic. I re-built a UO-18 for my wife...replaced the brakes, crankset, wheels, saddle, shifters, and RD.

If the bike had drop bars, there were adjusters on the Mafac levers. If it had upright bars, there were no adjusting barrels at all.
Don't lose those Mafac end ferrules! The Motobecane crank should work if you use the spindle and cups from the Motobecane. That's assuming that the cups are French. Motobecane switched to Swiss threads before Peugeot did. Good luck removing those fixed cups! |
Beautifulll bike -- good job!
I don't think this bike will be as nice -- the paint's a little beat up. What kind of pump do you have on it?

source for ferrules?
