Devoted 3spd site?

Does anyone know of a forum where the main interest is in 3spd bikes? I've been to the Lake Pepin site already, but it lacks a forum.

I have not found one, we are a web minority. I would like to see a hub gear forum right here myself. The Old Roads forum listed earlier is the closest I have found.

After doing a quick check of posting habits by forum members it looks very much like C&V is the forum when it comes to 3 speeds.

Sure........Why not? I'll start with pics. I have two 3 speeds (that are road worthy) Neither Raleighs or the like:(.
My Nishiki:

This pic was taken just before I dialed it in. I had just sold my fixed conversion and wanted to ride something new. The Nishiki came to me as a frame and I just started throwing parts at it.
*700c's laced to dynohub up front and a crappy Sturmey TCW 3 speed coaster out back.
*Steel north roads cheap bars.
*Dia Compe inversed bar end brake lever to a Dia Compe centerpull up front.
*Brooks B5N with an old saddle bag I had layin' around.
*Shimano tri-color 600 cranks (175mm hate 'em) with a Rocket ring.
Ya so that's basically it. Just thrown together for kicks.
Next is my '57 Schwinn Corvette:

When I got this I was really surprised how well it rode. It' pretty old. The rear hub is dated 64 and the front end was sadly used for parts for another bike so it's not correct. After riding it for awhile I've decided that while I have a certain amout of respect for how solid it is.......I just don't like it.
And just for some eye candy:

I've got more too..........What to do?:D

wahoonc 08-22-08 03:19 AM

Nope...no love for 3 speeds or internal gears here:innocent:

2whls3spds.... :D

My favorite form of bike.

Disgusting...ain't it:roflmao2:

I have a fair sized collection of NOS AW hubs, as well as bits pieces and the other odd hubs, but nothing to compare to that!

Aaron:)

Not a rainbow for sure.......It was a sad day when the last old school LBS in town closed down. :(
At least I saved a ton from the dump!

The three speed forums are all on analogue computers.

Bring a 6 pack over and we'll have a forum in my garage.

Sure it is, what other choice is there? There are quite a lot of 3 speed posts in Bike Forums, but they are scattered all over the place and thus hard to find. Many do not even have a keyword in them to make them easy to search for. I thought the Utility forum was the place but it is really a Cargo Bike forum. But then, I guess I am a lone voice crying in the wilderness.

That has been tried, there are a some of old threads like that, but they get buried in the far more popular threads. About the longest running one is in the Utility Cycling Forum;

Bring back the English 3-speed

Try Gentleman Cyclist.

Might want to add the new one that I just started...2whls Rambles I don't devote enough time to either one of them, but I try and keep them at least semi current:o

3 speeds????

Here is a contribution to the 3 speed section.

Black Centurion roadbike configuration with SA AW hub. A British green Dawes semi citybike with a SA coaster brake hub. A Raleigh Dawn Tourist from 1955. (Made the same year as me :) ) And a Peugeot mtb set up with a SA 3 speed with 2 cogs and derailleur. So it is a 3 speed times 2 . All are simple, reliable, fun, and beautiful to my eye.

That might be good one to make a group forum; we can all contribute from time to time.

rotharpunc 11-29-08 06:13 PM

my LBS has a couple SA three speed hubs in the overstock room. I've been looking for a reason to buy them!

sonatageek 11-29-08 06:24 PM

There is also a blog - old 3 speed gallery.

Yahoo Groups now has a primarily geared hub oriented group forum. It actually is listed as for non deraillleur bikes but the activity since it started has been primarily oriented towards gear hubs, at least 95% I would estimate. Discussions have included everything from two speed fixed gear AW conversion methods to the 14 speed Rohloff gear hub. Still a relatively small group but always interested in new members, the more active the better.

Here is a link for those interested.

I guess I should mention that my blog Subject to Change occassionally has 3-speed bicycle content.
