Bianchi ID?
I rebuilt this one years ago (my first bike resto) and never took a "before" photo. It was really beat up/rusty/corroded/etc, so I had it stripped and painted. I spent the better part of winter polishing parts and it came back nicely, but lately I've been wondering what model it originally was...
The seat collar is stamped 796 on one side and 2F on the other. The RD (original I believe) is Nuovo Record Pat. 81. It originally had Ofmega cranks and hubs and was/is a six-speed. Brakes are Universal 77's. Any thoughts? http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/bianchipop.JPG http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/bianfrntsmall2.JPG Steve |
Your photos show no frame details so hard to tell which model it is. I think those headbadges were used on bikes imported to Canada?
If it has Bianchi drop-outs it's most likely the basic Tretubi of Columbus Zeta/Aelle midline frame of the early 80's. If Campy drops then better. |
Thanks Otis.
I figured from the Bianchi drop outs it wasn't a high end frame. I've been curious about the head badge as I've yet to see another one like it (but I'm not the most observant guy out there, lol.) I'll post some detail shots when I get home from work. Steve |
The serial number indicates a 1982 model. As stated by Otis, the components suggest a mid-range racing model with a Tretubi frame. The components listed are a match for the 1983 Nuovo Racing and given that there is often little or no change between model years, a Nuovo Racing would appear to be the best candidate. FYI, the stays and forks on the 1983 Nuovo Racing were Falck, so there is a good chance it also have been used in 1982 as opposed to Columbus Zeta or Aelle.

Thanks T-Mar.
Would it have had a small Nuovo Racing sticker on the top tube by the seat collar? (seems to ring a bell) I want to say I remember a Columbus sticker, but I can't be sure. Here are a few detail shots just for the heck of it... http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/biandet1.JPG http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/biandet2.JPG http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/biandet3.JPG http://www.observedtrials.net/otn4/biandet4.JPG Do you have a scan of the '82/'83 catalog to match it up? Thanks again, Steve |
