Help me decide what to do
Right now I have my team fuji, my beater, and my masi frame. The masi frame has a seatpost, a new saddle, new campy xenon dual pivot brakes, a campy BB and headset. To get the masi on the road, I was going to buy a veloce group from PBK for ~400-500 and mavic open pro wheels for ~250. That's quite a bit more investment. I could also swap most of the fuji's stuff onto the masi frame, or put the nice saddle and brakes on the fuji and sell the masi frameset on ebay (not sure what it's worth).
What should I do? I don't know if I'll have the money to build up the masi for a while. |
have you ever posted pics of the Masi? Year?

It's an 86 3v, alberto masi made in Italy (not california) |
What bike do you want to ride? Therein lies the rub.
|
the 3v seems like a pretty unique frame.
|
The masi is cool and I want to ride it but I'll have a stiffer and maybe 1lb lighter bike if I just switched the fuji parts over to it. I might just ebay it!
|
I'd look for another donor parts bike for the masi. maybe a really big Univega or Miyata something with decent components and not much mystique.
|
Anyone?

Are you crazy?!?!? Keep the Masi! They are not exactly a dime a dozen. Horse trade for parts, buy a donor bike for spare change, donate blood! Get that mamba jamba on the road. Upgrade parts as you go.

I'd restore the Masi and ride the Fuji. Collect time correct parts and get that frame re-painted/restored. Ride it on sundays.

Sell the Masi frame and race the Fuji.

How much do you think I could get for it? The masi would be a better racing frame too :(
eBay is your answer. Let the market decide. Start the auction at $1.00 and set the reserve for something you feel comfortable with. |
You already have your answer, I'll quote you:
I could also swap most of the fuji's stuff onto the masi frame The masi is cool and I want to ride it ... if I just switched the fuji parts over to it. Whatever one I use will be ridden hard and raced like they should be. The masi would be a better racing frame too Keep the Masi, ride the Masi, cannibalize the Fuji and build up the Masi. You already know the answer - Masi. |
If you haven't had the Masi built up yet, you might build it up with the Fuji parts to see if you even like it before you spend a bunch on new parts. I've had a couple of bikes that didn't ride the way I had in mind, but I didn't learn that until after they were put together. You can't feel how a bike is going to ride until you have it on the road.
