Real René Herse?

This is for sale for less than 100 euros in an other country and I am trying to have a family member pick it up. It might not be possible though... Is this a real René Herse ? Is that the cinelli hub or a rené herse hub?

thanks a lot!

The hubs look like Maxi-Car. The bike is likely a Herse. Regardless, I'd say it is worth 100 euros.

Rene Herse used to rivet larger hub flanges onto other makers hubs. I'm not sure what the purpose was but it sure looks cool. Nice find!

You're going to want to get the book The Golden Age of Handbuilt Bicycles.

Not yet ... the chance of me getting it are very very slim, bike is in Europe, I'm in Canada.

The rear hub alone is worth about twice the asking price.

I'm hoping you get it. :)

I hope it's legit. Not long ago I saw pictures of Mike Kone's ~ $10K Herse, supposedly for sale for cheap, in classified ads on a web site in Spain. With that said, I don't recognize these pictures.

so Cinelli wasn't the only company that had a freewheel that stayed on the bike? I always thought that was one of their goofier ideas. But I guess it would be an advantage in a big race to need fewer spares
