Raleigh Competition----picture intensive

Ok, after a 33 year absence from the sport, here is my re-entry into cycling. I am going to enjoy this one. Made in 1973, all original except for the brake pads, tires, and tape which I replaced and kept the old ones.

I finally got a good overcast day for pictures.

Nice! I used to have a Competition. Mine was newer and did not have the Professional style sloping fork crown like yours does. Yours has nicer lugs, too.

Very nice! What is the frame composition -- Reynolds 531 butted main triangle?

Very nice. I had one in the '70s and early '80s. It was my first good bike and I rode many miles on it since I didn't have a car back then.

I think what John E was asking is, what does it say on the tubing sticker that's on the seat tube? Butted frame tubes, or also forks and stays?

Are those Normandy Luxe Competition hubs?

Enjoy it!

Thanks all for the kind comments.
It also still has the original Normandy stickers on the hubs and Aya on the rims. The TA decals on the crank need replacing though...anyone know of a source??

I'm getting excited with this one. It's been raining so it just sits for now. My last bike was in 1975 and it was a Zeus I bought in '73.

Sorry...I misunderstood, I haven't spoken bike speak for 3 decades or so. Corporate speak has been the norm for the last 25 years, so bear with me.
Stickers say 531 tubing and same on the forks and yes on the hubs.

...and here's it's younger ('79) but bigger (25.5") cousin (Comp GS).
BTW, that ride is crying out for gumwalls.

Velo Orange has them for $4 each. They are originals, not reproductions.
