Second question (today anyway). I couldn't find a link that was easily breakable. Should I just use a chain tool to remove the chain? It's got to come off sometime..

Now I am going to paint. Actually, I have a friend with a media blaster which is a good start and he also has access to a powder coating booth so technically I wont be the one painting.

This is going to be a nice looking rider before the end of winter.

Bummer about that hanger and the paint. Anyways, it can be repaired. Depends on whether you want to invest a little money. If it were me, I probably see what it'll cost to have the dropout replaced but you can also continue to use the claw hanger modification. Nothing functionally wrong with that and you can always get it fixed later but you'd have to repaint. Because of the terrain around here I made some modifications to mine to make it a more practical rider for those longe rides - I changed the crank to one with 52/40 rings and changed out the rear derailleur for a Campy Rally long cage derailleur and a 14-34 freewheel. The Rally is not technically correct (I think they didn't come out until 1974) but it looks right and I'd rather ride a bike that's not quite correct than have a period correct one hanging from the wall.
