Time out guys. I had done zero research before I posted here. I don't need the cash and think the best plan for me is to return it to all campy and keep it for my grandchildren (not too soon I hope).I didn't even know there was a market for old bikes.

Gorgeous. I'd put the Record components back on it if I were you - regardless of operational ability, the 105 parts do not do this frameset justice in the least bit.

Wow, looks just like mine but your's is green [I have a blue one orignal paint too]. What year is it? I bought mine in 1977[or very early 78]. Still have it too. I did not remove my Campy Super Record components and still ride it today. I do not have 80k on mine but it has rode to Mt. Fuji in Japan from Tachikawa [Tokyo] Japan. Many miles around the Puget Sound area too.

Mine was blue when I bought it. It was used from a guy who worked in Palo Alto Bike Shop. I got it in 1977 and it had to be at least a couple of years old. It got painted green (by Tom Ritchey himself) after I got hit by a car and destroyed the front fork. He built me a new one and did the paint job.

Beautiful bike, and I hope we can all convince you to upgrade frm the current 105 back to Campy (even modern Chorus or Centaur etc.). Keeping it for the grandkids is a great idea - not many folks have been able to spend 20+ years with a bike, let alone one that is 'special' in the eyes of collectors.
I also wanted to point out that I think those 'lugs' are actually fillet brazed joints that T.R. sculpted into what what look like lugs. Don't even think of the hours it took to do that, or what it would cost today. The paint looks great - just a few touch up spots.

I disagree with your lug opinion. They are Prugnat Lugs. I know for a fact that they are, base on my copy of the Palo Alto 79-80 catalog [page 36 bottom left corner] that says that's what they are.

So I have one more question. I'd like to go ahead and return it to all Campy Record. Just yesterday I was outbid on a crankset on ebay. How hard is this going to be? Is there still lots of old Campy out there or not? Should I be jumping on anything I find of the correct vintage or just be patient?

I would say be patient. Sometimes I surf craigslist nationwide for parts I am looking for, then contact the seller and arrange payment and shipping if they are willing. Also search "completed listings" on ebay for an idea of the current market value of the stuff you are looking for.

I hope the annupurna was a partial lug, because filing a lug into the brass fillet is an insane waste of time. Looks neat though.

I am no expert. I just found my old Palo Alto catalog recently [after storing it for almost 30 years] and was reading about my frame. I would think the seat lug is. When I was younger I was impressed with the fast back style of the seat stays and that was the selling point. At the time I did not know who he was since I was living in Japan at the time. I did not realize that it would be worth anything or even if I would still have it.

This bike is gorgeous, a find example of the best work done by one of America's greatest bike builders. If I had anything 1/2 this nice, it would almost certainly be my "main ride," regardless of whatever modern road bike I had in the stable.
