Help with 1978 Chrome Schwinn Paramount Restoration?

Hello everyone!

I've decided to either restore or sell my trusty old Schwinn Paramount. I wanted to see if anyone had any advice about trying to clean up the chrome a bit. In some places on the frame it is flaking quite a bit and other spots are failry pitted. So, I wanted to see if anyone had any advice.

You can get a look at some of the pictures of the frame here:

Any advice or suggestions would be most helpful!

Thanks,
Travis

My Bottechia Pro all chrome cleaned up very good. In the ruff spots I used fine steel wool and chrome cleaner.

Was that frame chromed at the factory? I believe 1973 was the last year that they were chromed.

Braze-on bottle cage mounts and NGS derailers too.

Go over it with fine bronze wool (are those "flaking" areas in regards to the condition of the decals, or the chrome?), then polish with Flitz metal polish. Careful around the decals.

P.S.: Best to have bumped your original thread.

That did clean up nicely. But you gotta get the Cannondale decal off there. And the funky yellow tire.

I was pondering the same question, so I checked Bob Hufford's site for the 1978 catalogue. Notice what is said at the bottom of the black box on the right; "All current colors except chrome."
