schwinn paramount
 

Hello, I just purchased a older schwinn paramount. It has a serial # on the bottom bracket. I hope someone can help me figure out the history of this bike. I purchased it from a gentlemen who taught road cycling at our local community college. The bikes components are all shimano dura ace, eight cogs on back, two up front. brakes, shifters everything are in immaculate condition. The color is a candy apple red. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new at this, please bear with me.

Sounds like a sweet late 1980s waterford bike, at least I hope it is. 8 speed dura-ace is collectable, not so much as C-record but it's definitely getting there... it was the best performing group at the time by a large margin.

Welcome to C&V. We're here to help. You have invested in a fine bike. Pictures and the serial number are needed along with any particular designations in the decals. For instance, do you see "OS" or "Series" any place? As Paramounts progressed into the late '80s and early '90s there were frames contracted out to quality Asian builders, while others were built in Waterford, WI. Paramounts have a long history here in the US and there are many generations of different frames, builds, and configurations. We look forward to helping you.

You gotta be kidding me! Cottonwood? where did you find this bike? how? Did this guy teach at Yavapai? Please, we have got to get together and talk. I live in Clarkdale, about 200 yards from the college! Maybe you can make the this Friday morning conversational ride at Jerona's. I will be there on my "new" Medici. I would really like to see your bike and hear the story behind it. Tomorrow I will be climbing to the top of Mingus, via Jerome. Interested?

I just acquired 2 vintage Schwinn bicycles, they are new in the box or were new in the box, I just took them out....first one is a Schwinn Paramount year 1971 Chrome, the 2nd one is a new in the box Schwinn Volare Orange 1977. I am trying to work out the serial #'s as well and learning quite a bit on this forum. I can post pictures of whatever you like for reference, let me know !! I really do not have an interest in Vintage road bikes, just Mountain...so, if any one is interested in these bikes...let me know !!

This is one of the last Waterford-built Paramounts and uses Reynolds 753 OS tubes. It is a rare machine.

I scour craigslist all of the time, and the other day there was an ad for a repair stand. I called on it, and went to see it. I liked it and as i was looking at it the seller asked what kind of bike i rode. I have a specialized mountain bike that i ride, but i told him that i was looking for a road bike because i have been riding my mountain bike about 20 miles every other day. He pointed to this bike and said he was selling it. I truthfully had no idea what it was, but i know that dura ace components are some of shimanos higher end components. Everything about this bike was very clean, and his shop was immaculate. I asked him what size frame it had and hes said it was a 55 to 56cm. We looked at each other and we are the same height, I asked him how much, and when he told me the price, well i knew the components alone were worth the asking price so i bought both the stand and the bike. I took it home and started researching the bike and got a hint of what i had. I then wondered why he sold it to me, and why so cheap. He left some personal items in the tool bag so i called him and told him to see if they were things he wanted, and if so i would mail them to him which i did. I asked him some questions at that time about the bike still not sure what i had, and he confirmed that yes it was a waterford frame that i had purchased for a very nice price. I told him that i really appreciated it, and he told me he has some drop bars for it and asked if i wanted them. i told him yes. I am now more bewildered than ever as to why he sold it, and why so cheap. Truthfully i am very thankful to him for being so kind for both. Money is tight right now and i didn't know how i would get a decent road bike for awhile. It was truly a blessing and an answer to prayer.

Wow. Does he still live in the verde? I guess it was meant to be for you, totally awesome. We need to get together and go for a steel only ride. My hubby has a few nice old bikes, but would LOVE to have a paramount like that.

I also bought this touring bike from the same gentlemen. It is a Nashbar touring frame with shimano 105 components.
