Guerciotti

Anyone know the range of years that Guerciotti used the flag decals on the downtube?

Until 1983. Don't know when they were first used.

Thanks. I'm trying to nail down the year of my bike. I'm told it's an 81 or 82. Your information at least partly confirms that.

Yes, please do post photographs. There are tons of pre-'83 Guerciottis out there running about with the later decals (mainly in blue and red).

Mine definitely has the flag decals and look to be original. Color is red BTW. Has the G star cutout on underside of BB and G star indented on the crown of the chrome fork. Has the all the correct other decals also (Columbus tubing, G Milano, etc) as far as I can tell.

The seat stay engraving should help in identification. Are the stays spoon shaped, flat, and are they labled "Guerciotti" or "Paulo Guerciotti?" (latter unlikely, as it was used first in '84).

The seat stays have a flattened area where they connect to the seat tube and have an indented "Guerciotti" in yellow.

Flattened, or depressed/spoon shaped? If flattened, no later then 1980/1; if spoon, 1982-83, IIRC.

I'll have to check again when I get home, but I believe they are flattened. I'll post when I make sure.

Thanks, Kurt. You're a big help.

Michael.

I checked and they are depressed/spoon shape so I guess that makes it an 82 or 83?
I'm not having any luck in trying to post photos? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Michael

Either reduce the photos in size, so that they can be imported directly to BF (they can actually be jpgs that are over 100K, since they seem to be somewhat more compressed upon uploading), in which case they may be uploaded using the "manage files" option on the Advanced posting dialog;
Or, upload them to an image-hosting site, or any other perpetually online server location with public access, and copy the URL, pasting that into the dialog that you get when you click on the "Insert Image" button at the top of the posting composition dialog. Then they can be larger, but if you use photos over 1024 or 1280 pixels wide, they widen the whole thread's window, making reading posts a pain.
