How do I remove Pinarello ghost decals?

As is typical, the white part of the decals on my 1985 Pinarello have flaked off, leaving the ghost outline. What should I use to remove the remainder of the decals?

Thanks

Rubbing compound will get them off, keep the rag damp. If done right, it'll clean off the ghost and polish up the paint nicely, you might be tempted to rub down the entire bike.

They probably didn't use the right kind of paint, but at Trek back in the day, when we messed up the decals, we would just use a rag soaked in paint thinner. When Dupont Imron dries, it's pretty bulletproof to chemicals.

Just an FYI for others: sometimes the "ghosting" is a result of UV fading of the surrounding paint, so if the image is a dark "ghost" then the rubbing compound won't help...otherwise: rub away.

Thanks what kind or brand of rubbing compound would you suggest?

I use Meguiars Scratch X when I'm concerned about the finished product.

Thanks for posting this, I have the same problem with my '89 Pinarello, and I've been afraid to touch it since I got it.

Now can someone recommend a seller of Pinarello decals? I know I saw one on eBay back in June when I first acquired my bike -- I think he wanted $40 for a set. That seems expensive, but I'm new to all this.

not expensive... That's $100.

Aargh...
