Help! I am an idiot!
While trying to adjust my Campy C Record RD I broke off a piece that renders it useless. UGH! No need to kick me as I am kicking myself!!! By the off chance, does anyone have any extra of these pieces around or can point me in the right direction?

I feel your pain, having done this myself to a SR brake caliper. Now I'm more careful about tightening anything that has to do with aluminum.

Don't feel too bad. That would appear to be the "upper body bush," which often breaks on C-Record rear mechs. Mine broke too. Supposedly the same piece was used in another Campy derailleur of that era. Athena? I'm not certain. Good luck.

If it was, I'd definitely like to know. Ran into a few wrecked C-Rec's, but never found one with an intact stop.

Looks to me to be a variant on the manually adjustable stop used on the Campagnolo Victory.

Fix it dear Henry, dear Henry...
Anyone tried repairing something like this with JB Weld? I've had a lot of success with the stuff, personally, though never on something like this.
It might not look 100% perfect when finished, but it would beat chucking an otherwise perfectly fine derailer. Gern |
If it's the steel retainer/bushing into which the the end of the spring fits, I broke one myself. Luckily I had both pieces, I took it to a jewelery repair shop and they silver-soldered it back together. It's still working fine, 6 years and countless miles later.

you just missed one on ebay, but I warn you they're not cheap:
http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/Campagnolo-C...QQcmdZViewItem A quick search of completed parts shows this seller has put multiple auctions up for the same part, you might want to contact him and see if he has any more. I've dealt with him before, is very nice and knowledgeable. Marty |
save the pieces, I might have a torch in the next month or so.
|
Well, I have a near NOS Athena RD but no C Record to compare it to..........
|
Did you try contacting Campagnolo? Doesn't hurt to ask if they could supply a replacement part.

Lots of good ideas. I will contact my local jewler and see if it can be done there. Contacting Campy isn't a bad idea - nothing to lose. I also have my eye on a few beat-up old ones to maybe part out. Does anyone need any parts if I decide to buy and part-out?

If you contact Campagnolo try Campy USA. I needed new paddles for a set of
Centaur brifters ( metal not CF) and they were more than helpful. Marty |
