Miyata sportcross information please

my neighbor is selling her miyata sportcross and knows absolutely nothing about it, and neither do I, other than it's the kind of bike I want and it fits me. I am a very casual rider.

She claims the bike is around 6 years old but most of the information I have found leads me to believe the bike is much older than that. like pre 1995.

what years were these bikes imported to the states, and how much is something like this worth if it has been well kept? should I just buy a new bike instead?

Oddly enough, I saw a listing for a sportscross frame for sale today and went looking for info about it. I found this catalog from 1993 which shows the sportscross set up as a kind of "hybrid" (flat bars).
