Ernie Clements?
Hey all,
I found this bike on my local CL, and I'm wondering what this thing is. I've never heard of the name on the frame before, but wikipedia tells me the guy was a british racer who built frames in his old age. Does anyone know if these are any good? Cheers. |

Any bets on the quality of this frame? Here's a picture, albeit a kind of crappy one: http://images.craigslist.org/1f012c1...5f970c144f.jpg |
I have a memory (perhaps illusory) of reading that late in his cycle-building career Ernie Clements split with Falcon, and was _then_ making frames branded with his own name, not before.

From what I can make out of the picture (and yes, it's a crappy one :)) it's a Falcon. Guessing Weinmann centerpulls, assuming the levers match the calipers.
OK, Falcon's in general were good bikes. They made everything from a good cheap bike-boom special, to good, nicely finished full Campagnolo Neuvo Record bikes (I owned one back in the 1970's). How about some details about brand and model names of the components hanging on the frame. Also, is there a frame sticker saying Reynolds something-or-other on the frame tubes? Steel rims or alloy? We won't be able to give you a better answer without some of those details. However, in general, being a Falcon, it ain't junk. |
