My pretty girlfriend and her pretty (sort of) new bicycle:
So, yesterday, my girlfriend got this bicycle from her grandparents garage:
I was wondering if any of you could tell me anything about it, as in its history or quality, etc.
Its a Pugeot, it says "special frame, allegra pugeot" on a sticker. Heres two more pictures:
Any information on it would be pretty darn cool.
It's a neat bike with some neat parts, note the rear basket and wire water bottle holder in front.
Anyway, figured you all in C&V would know a thing or two.
I'm fixin' it up myself.
Anyone got a handful of ball bearings they'd mail me? *laugh*

Let me be the first to say "there's a bike in that picture?"

Great bike, beautiful girlfriend.
Pump up the tires, adjust the brakes, lube the chain and go for a ride.
Maybe switch out the basket for a front mounted one.

I love being able to chat with other bicycle geeks.
No one else in the world apprecieates my passion.
I've looked at that bike many times, it's her mom's.
A 58cm Motobecane with all its original parts, very good condition.
WAY too big for me.
That's what it is. I don't know a thing about Motobecane, though.

I had another picture with her face covered, but I looked at the two right before I posted, and said to myself, "Aww, what the heck-"
And used this one.
Plus, I felt evil posting a picture with her face cut off.
That's all besides the point.
Big props to JunkYardBike for the reference links.

I hear that a lot.
I'm 19.
She's 17.
That's okay in California as long as none of that goes on. (You see what I'm saying.)
I don't want to make this thread political, but I do question some of California's policies (existing or proposed) regarding relationships. I see "yes" and "no" on Prop 8 signs all over the place. They kind of ruin the cycling landscape.
Note I express no bias in the above statement.

Your girlfriend is darling, and she is lucky she has a nice mixte to ride on! Good on you to encourage her, too.

Thank you, East Hill.
I've gotten a few of my friends into cycling, and now I'm glad she can join me in what she calls "my new phase," hopefully it'll grow on her from being "just a thing" to being a real, respectable mode of transport. We'll see.
What breaks my heart is those among my friends who say, "I f---ing hate bicycles."
Converting them is usually more work.

banjo mole-
Hmm. Not much in the way of bike help yet (save for JYB), but mucho social support. (I don't know much about Peugeots myself, or I'd comment.)
Cheerful and positive classic bike lovers such as yourself (and, ahem, your GF, of course) are much welcome here.

Well said about the Motobecane.
Her dad has a 1980 Trek, but I haven't seen it, he keeps it at his business in SB.
PDX Aero, there's a nicer looking bike here,

although I don't know if my lady's bike is a UO or a UE.

I'm pretty sure it's a UO. I think the UE doesn't have chrome on the fork.
p.s. - I hope you realize how lucky you are to have such a supportive and radiant girlfriend.

Occasionally supportive, other times kindly sarcastic.
I brought home an old schwinn "bottle style" rear light generator, and after explaining it, got-
"So, you're saying you'll be like a hampster in a wheel. Well, two wheels, but still. You'll be a hampster."
But yes, I'm unusually lucky.
AHH! USA Zorro! Thank you very much for helping me figure out which model it is. I didnt even think about the chrome fork!
PS- I hike alot also, and about a mile south of my house in the hills there is a point called Solomon Hill. Local legend has it the "real" Zorro (whom the character was based off of) would sit on that point and watch the Mexican coaches' dust kicking up in the distance, then would ambush them. (You can see for miles from the point.) Just thought you'd apprecieate the fact.

As stated above, it's a UO-18. Looks early seventies to me, maybe '71.
Take a look under the bottom bracket, there should be a serial number. Post it, and we'll be able to tell you the year.
