Since every Bianchi post seems...
...to be the mundane "I.D. and Value" lately. I thought I'd share a couple of pics for the Bianchi fans out there.
I just got this frameset today after looking for one in my size for years. It's in fantastic original condition.
It's a '77-'78 Specialissima Barcelona. Was the top model in its day coming with a full Super Record Ti gruppo. I'll be building it back to near stock spec with most of the Ti stuff and milled parts.
Bare frame with fork weigh an honest 5lbs. 6 oz. on my postal scale.
Did the frame prep and headset today, but I have to milk it as it's not even winter yet!

I.D.: "la biciclette che vince"
Value: priceless
I stole the quote from the top tube of my Torelli but it sure applies to yours. That will be one sweet bike when you finish the build. Don

I like how you match your shop towels to your bicycle.

Otis, looks a gem, well found and hope you enjoy it.
As I am about to start, for the first time, a similar strip-down and rebuild - albeit on a significantly less glamorous machine - I would really appreciate any hints and tips, do´s and don´ts that you can pass on. Oh, and photos too, if only for inspirational purposes.
Cheers,
Barchettaman.
PS If anyone has a link to a similar thread of a photographic record of a strip-down/rebuild, I´d love to have it. MOst of the (albeit inspiring) photos I have seen on the site have been just of the before and after variety.
TIA

celeste bianchis are timeless... they are truely classics... they never go out of style, one flows to the next...that is why they look ahead of their time because of that classic style. Sort of like the great actors or a great classic piece of clothing... somethings just don't go out of style... ever.... that is the celeste

Thanks for the photos - I must say that a Specialissima like yours is my number one 'wish I had' bikes. It's going to look fantastic when it's built. You have a wonderful collection of parts that will make it simply breathtaking.
Are you going to fit a 1st gen Super Record rear derailleur or go with a 2nd gen derailleur? Both models were available and date stamped '1978'.
Thanks once again,
Gary.
P.S. Even the protective cloths are the 'right' colour.

Hi Kurt,
From my reading of the 1981 catalog, it appears that the brand name decals are under clear coat and the other decals such as "Made in Italy" & "Columbus," are applied after the clear coat. This seems to be true of the Bianchi Super Corsa frame I recently aquired--the Bianchi decals are in near perfect condition while the others are long since gone with only a discolored area where the decals used to be.

Curiously, are those decals under the clearcoat?
The down-tube and seat tube lettering may have clear over them but everything else is on top of the paint.
There is something about Bianchis that always make them appear a decade newer then they are - can't just put my finger on it. Font? Reminds me so much of a late '80s Italian steed (save for the clamp-on TT cable routing).

Nothing about this frame says 80's to me. Long Campy Drop-outs, nutted brakes, flat-crown fork, foil decal, threaded stubs for bottle cage......

Thanks Gary, It's been a number one want for me for a long time.
I'm going to use a pat. 77 1st gen rear der. I think the bike is a '77, at least the seat collar is stamped 1-77. I've never gone by these stampings on the Reparto bikes but looking at the two 70's Speciallisima's on the Speed Bicycle site they might be accurate for these years? My frame still has the head-tube model number decal and it would be right for a Barcelona model from '77-'78. At least going by the catalog on the web which is listed as a '78 but I think may be a '77, as all the bikes shown are outfitted with with pre CSPC parts. Then again it's a Euro catalog so maybe they did not use the CSPC parts?
Your '54 and CDI in the other post look great!

Thanks Otis.
I would vote for a 1st gen derailleur too. Such a special bike and a derailleur to match. How about a 4 slot caged front derailleur as well?

I'm still debating using the gold OR10 wheelset I was saving for my '82, or a polished Nisi set that would be a bit more appropriate?
