Huffy Premier Mixte

Hi there from Down under.

Hard rubbish/kerbside recycling has yielded me an American Huffy.

It's a 24" Premier Mixte.I realise from the look of it that it was probably a K Mart department store type clunker, but am curious about the age and any relevant info that anyone may have about this model.

B/B and one piece cranks are low end BMX style

I'm assuming this decal is a little tounge in cheek

Cheers B.L

You should be able to date the components. Get the serial number off the back of the derailers and go to http://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm

Also, the frames serial number should help you date it.

HC 4885400 is the code stamped on the head tube, if that's a help.

Huffy Serial Numbers

Determining a Huffy's age requires two steps:

* The last digit of the year of manufacture can be determined by the first digit of the serial number.
* Then you have to look for other characteristics to determine the decade of manufacture.

Example:
Your serial number starts with "5"
Your cycle has 26 x 1.75 tires
Your cycle has a built in tank

This would be a cycle manufactured in 1965

Using this method I was say your bike is a 1974 or 1984.
