The seat is attached incorrectly.

Can you post some closer pics and can you check the bottom bracket for i.d. numbers? I'd like to see the fork crowns and stickers on the seat tube.

an effort to capitalize on the racers name. equipped with entry level french racing components (merckx wouldn't be caught dead on anything but campy).

It's a Falcon built Merckx. It's a junker.

Kessels built for Eddy Merckx. Kessels also had his own frames under the brand name 'Main d'Or' (Hand of Gold). Well built frames usually.
I must agree that the huge space between rear tire and seattube signifies 'possible junker', but have a further look. Are the dropouts forged, not stamped, and Campagnolo? What tubing is used? Are the lugs filed down? Etc, etc ... The workmanship in other words.

Kessels made some Merckx just like the Falcons. Some say that the higher end models made by Kessels were better than the Higher models by Falcons. I've seen red, silver, blue, orange and green Kessel's made Merckx here in Belgium.

There were Merckx bikes made under license in many different countries: Belgium (Kessels), Britain (Falcon), Japan (Miyata) and Italy (I don't remember who built them). There might be some others too.

Double eyelets in the back, pump-pegs, cottered cranks all spell low quality and /or touring orientation - not up to Kessels' very high standards and not in line with their racing-oriented products (usually 531 too) which it would be if they slapped the Merckx-decals on that frame. Also check that silver decal : does it really say 'Kessel' (without the end-s)? That would be VERY poor faking.

Entry level Merckx license bikes were nothing to write home about. My Falcon Merckx came with mediocre cottered steel cranks, rims and shifters; and the lamp bracket on the fork as well. Perfect for riding down to the pub.
(all the original components have been swapped out on this bike except the wheel wingnuts!)

I have a Main d'Or with all Campy Nuevo Record but I'm having the hardest time getting any information about this type of bike including how much it should be sold for. Can you either give me information about this type of bike and some guidance of how much to sell it for? Also, can you guide me to a site where people would appreciate the bike versus posting it to Craigslist?
I have not taken pictures yet because I just got it tuned up and cleaned. It's in perfect condition!
Thanks!
