Help with a BCA indentification
 

I'm trying to get some info on this BCA Mountain(?). Found it in somebody's outgoing trash. I've searched a few forums for infor on BCA, and I know it was a part of Ross. Sorry if it's a waste of whomever answers this time. Just curious about it's year of manu. and model name.

Anyways, the only distinguishing marks on this bike is the BCA sticker on the frame, the stamped BCA indentions on both sides of the upper point of the rear triangle (yeah I really don't know the name of those tubes), the seat it self says "BCAmerica" and "Mountain" on each cheeck pad of the seat. It doesn't have it's neck tube shield, or a model name. I'm pretty sure the fenders are after-market. It's a lugged frame with aluminium wheels and sprocket gaurd, what looks like early cantilevered breaks, and Shimano SIS hardware. The rear break line runs along the top part of the cross tube held by little archways (see last picture).

I'm quite fond of this bike, actually. It may be the 80's equivalent to what you find in Wal-Mart now-a-days, but it's got character and I plan on fixing it up just for utility riding. I just want some general info on it, year, model, tips on keeping it working.

I at one time had a 20" wheeled tandem they had made. If I recall correctly they were only in business for about 1 year in the early 1990s. I don't think they made the bike themselves. Roger

I can't see any "Made in" stickers or stampings anywhere. Just an american flag near the rear derailure.

Anybody else wanna take a crack at this thing?

I found some more info on the bike. The crank set is Shimano BioPace.

I don't have any information on the bike but there is an old guy that rides around my neighborhood on an all black BCA. It looks like it just rolled off Mt. Tam. I've often wondered about it's pedigree.

I've been seeing a step-through version on the local CL a couple of times a week with an asking price of $45. From the photo, it appears to have one-piece cranks and a steel stem & bars, so it's a lower-end model.

Yours is pretty nice in comparison, looks like a sound commuter.

I had a BCA road bike awhile ago. Other than a kickstand plate it was actually pretty darn nice! It was made with Tange #2 tubing and had nice dropouts. It had a big sticker proudly declaring that it was made in the USA. Try a search for Bicycle Corporation of America.......
Looks like your MTB is an excellent candidate for a sweet SS MTB!

I've searched high and low for anything BCA and the exploded version of it's name and got a few links to these forums and a few other C&V forums.

I'm getting more info from posting in the forums than from google'ing BCA. Many thanks, by the way.

And pardon this question but what does "SS" mean? Single Speed? If so then I agree, as I thought about it just for kicks. It would save me from messing around with my Ace.

Oh ya! If you want to narrow the year down you can look up the date codes on the components here:

If the parts are original you should be able to get within a year or 2.

After a bit of component research and the site provided to me by Kpug i was able to determing that this BCA was made between 84-88 and the components are a Z-series Light Action. Z series being about 2 steps below 105's, apparently.

Now to just try and figure out the bikes model name.

I have the exact same bike. Also rescued it from the trash. Replaced the cables, tires, and rear derailer. I think it is awesome!
