Mystery PX-10
So, having lost the auction for a Raleigh (mentioned in this thread) I found another vintage bike local to me on the Bay--this time a Peugeot.
I looked a little closer, did some googling and decided that with a six-digit serial number (in two three number groups -- 519 903) on the Nervex hubs and chrome on the fork and stays, it was probably a 1970 PX-10. Simplex derailleur, Laprade seatpost. Some nicks and scrapes and the decal on the seat tube has a small rust spot where it's been scratched. http://i2.ebayimg.com/07/i/001/18/36/52da_3.JPG There was another lurking bidder. I eeked it out at $267. I don't know the frame size. The seller didn't check his mail until the auction had almost ended. Hopefully I'll be able to ride it instead of trading it/re-selling it. So--is it a PX-10? (Hopefully I didn't screw that up.) Is the price decent? How'd I do? |
I'm not the expert, but it looks like one to me. Looks like a 58 or 60 cm.

So....I just bought Shaq's old bicycle?
Ah well. Maybe I can ebay some platform bike shoes ;P |

Ah well. Maybe I can ebay some platform bike shoes ;P Seriously, the price is good; I've seen frames from that period go for more. Bike does need work, though. Six digit number suggests earlier; hard to pin down exact years on these-- the serial number won't tell you. Stem and bars not original, nor brakes. Or pedals. Fix it up and ride it, they're great bikes. |
Definitely a PX-10, circa 1969-1970. Using serial numbers to date Peugeots is next to useless.
Bars, stem, calipers, levers, pedals and seatpost are not original, obviously. Looks like the skewers have the rubber covers on them still, which is nice. |
Well, I'm 5'11". As long as I can get off and on w/o endangering my childrearing prospects and reach the pedals without too much trouble, I'll be riding it.

You might want to consider replacing that saddle.
The FD is not original, nor the seatpost. I can't say for sure about the RD. You'll find out exactly what you've got when it arrives. That's always fun! I've seen those Simplex skewers alone sell for $100. |

Your bike is a '66-ish to '69 PX10. Getting an exact date isnt all that important because they're all virtuly identicle. If you know certain parts are original you can look for date codes. |
