Another Legnano Roma

I just wanted to share my latest find with you since it's a relatively rare one. I would have added it to my other Legnano thread but the search function doesn't work at the moment. It's what I believe to be a 1958-1962 Legnano Roma with bad paint and no headbage. I didn't mind too much considering the price I paid.

I only have one question though ; has this brooks saddle been cut?

Here are some as found pictures , dirt and dust included.

How nice of you to find a nice bike that's my age and size.

That should clean up very nicely. Sorry I don't have an answer on the saddle.

Definitely cut - you can see the oval of the badge terminating 3/4 of it's length in the photo.

Definitely lustworthy! I'd guess closer to 62 based on no adjusting barrel on the Gran Sport RD.

Great find in wonderful original condition. Hope you are going to do an "unobtrusive" rebuild.

I have a headbadge, if you got stuff for trade. PM if interested.

Nice find, looks like it should clean up well! Headbadges occasionally turn up on ebay...

If a bike's value were based solely on its color scheme, you could trade this one for a cliffside palace in LaJolla! Oh man oh man. Beauty. Now I need to figure out which horse to put down to make room for a Legnano.

Where'd you find it?

Thanks for all your comments ! Cudak ,thanks, I figured it was abnormal for the logo to be patially cut off.

Rabid Koala, thanks for helping me date this bike, I'll also remove the lock nuts to see what that says and if it confirms your estimation.

Otis, the paint is a bit worse than the pictures show but the parts are in great shape. I will just clean and polish the bike, nothing more.As for the headbadge, the seller is trying to locate the headbadge for me . I doubt he will be successfull, so just send me a list of the parts you need and I'll se what I have, I have some good campy stuff...

Jebensh, LoL ! This is the 3rd Legnano Roma that has passed through my hands, I really like that color too, very distinctive. Found it on a small classified ads website , out of all the Legnanos I have purchased, all were originally bought from a shop in Montreal called Baggio.

fwiw - I have some of that brake cable housing around, but probably not enough to replace what's in the current configuration.

completely lovely. Yes, the saddle has been butchered...and it looks like the frame has been pounded to a narrower profile as well. Too bad about the headtube badge, but they turn up regularly on ebay...good luck!

Is that really a four-speed cluster, or did someone just remove the outer cog?

I just went and looked at it and it's a 5 speed cluster. The picture does make it look like a 4 speed.

What a great find. I love those old cables, in Gatorade green no less. It looks like it should be a relatively painless restoration, too. Congrats!

quebec is like little france, as such it seems all the best bicycles in the country are there. You take the cake as all time greatest finder of amazing finds, one could almost make a living on the bikes you turn up. That is just incredible, once again, congratulations.. I'd be hanging that on my wall for sure, the girlfriend would not be able to argue against it.

Thanks, not quite like France unfortunately but better than other places. I won't tell you how much I paid for this one or you'd be moving here tomorrow.

Ps how would that look on this bike ?

Well, congratulations, you've proven that you are indeed the "Legnano Magnet of Quebec". Very nice find.

Did you pay more than $600 USD? Or less? Looks mighty original, so it's very perfect!
