What a breakfast ride!
I do local breakfast rides on Saturdays. Today was quite a workout. It was short, only about 20 miles total, but two things made it a challenge:
1. I rode my old Raleigh 3-speed. This should have been no problem; they have three groups and I figured I could do the Cruiser pace easily. But also....
2. The temperature was about 45F this morning, which isn't so bad by itself, but the 20 mph winds with 35 mph gusts were a bit extreme.
There were only two bikes in the Cruiser class this morning. Me and another guy who had the coolest rig: He was riding the front end of a tandem, his ten-year-old son was riding the back seat, and his eight-year-old son was riding a trailer-cylce behind them- three people on one bike.
Anyway, with the wind, it felt like up-hill, both ways. I'm bushed.

Bikes: like 15. my favorite a 1951 schwinn spitfire cruiser. also have a 1959 amf roadmaster, 1962 jch deluxe cruiser among others.

always glad to see people on cruiser bikes. i commute everyday to work on a 59' amf roadmaster cruiser ss or my newer ss huffy gv cruiser. and the 3 people on the one bike, how cool is that!

I just did a little out and back. The out was into the wind and no fun, but on the way back I looked down and found myself cruising along at 32mph on a flat stretch of road.

The deal is this: The rally point for the breakfast ride is about 8 miles from home, in a NNW direction. I typically ride there. (I mean, what's the point of driving out to ride? I don't even own a bike carrier for my car.) The breakfast place this week was close to where I live. So my plan even before this morning was to ride to the meetup point, ride with the group to breakfast, then just go directly home. So basically I did the same "out and back" thing (against the window going out, getting blown back in), although before heading SSE to the restaurant, we meandered east for a bit before heading south (they usually take a bit of a scenic route to breakfast).
And for breakfast? coffee; sausage, jack cheese, onion & pepper omelet with sliced fresh tomato on the side (in lieu of carby toast and hash browns).
