A Manual Worth Looking For
 

The book "Glenn's Complete Bicycle Manual" has lots of disassembly, maintenance and reassembly information for older bike components.

Coverage includes coaster hubs, freewheels, Bendix 2 speed kick back gear hubs, Sturmey Archer AW & TCW and early Shimano 3 speed hubs, derailleurs etc. Even a section on the early Schwinn disc brake as well as sections on 1970s Campy components.

My copy is the original 1973 edition. Reprinted through 1988 apparently but not sure if later printings/editions are revised.

A good number of copies listed by booksellers on Amazon starting as low as $3.00 or so + shipping.

I've got that one too......It is excellent! I especially like the pics in the bike fitting section.....:love:;)

A later edition was called "Glenn's New Complete Bicycle Manual" and dropped coverage of some of the older parts while including newer stuff, including Sturmey Archer 4 and 5 speed hubs, later derailleurs etc. Printed in 1987. Enough differences so that IMO both editions are worth having if working on vintage 1960 to 1990 bikes.

Both available used through Amazon.

I have an old version, the same one we kept in the LBS I used to work in. There is lots of good information in there and the book is well worth buying.

Rather handy book to have around the shop.

The picture of Nixon hanging out with the kids is my all time favorite.

I was extremely happy the day I came across one of the 1973 copies at the local thrift store for $0.50. It has been used numerous times since I have owned it.

Urk. I bought mine new.

Local library has the '87 variant. Nice little book to have about, and I've learned a few things I was unfamiliar with its assistance.

Best thing is the full Campy 50th machine on the cover though:

Never did figure out what it was. The headbadge looked EM to me, but I never did convince myself of it...

Yeah, I've always wondered what it is too. Beautiful machine, whatever it is.

That book is indispensable.
It even shows the reader that wearing a lab-coat is the correct attire for repairing your bicycle!
