High end Murray?
 

Found a Murray Adiago 12 speed "lightweight racer" at Saver's. Steel lugged frame, from 1985. Shimano components, dia comp brakes. Is this a well-made Murray? Anyone know about this bike? Thanks

The only "High End" Murray are the Serotta made bikes.

Does the one you are interested in look a bit like this one? If so, it is a decent bike but still a gas pipe special. This one was for sale for $50 on the Schwinn forum a couple of years back.

I saw a Murray frameset missing lots of its' components this summer which had "Pepsi 2000" decals all over it, and "The choice of a new generation" slogan, it was an '88 or '89 and had decals advertising its' Steel and Lugged construction.

that is the exact bike i got, although mine is a men's. got a few parts i could use, any thoughts on using the frame as a fixed gear? pretty heavy...

Looks like it has horizontal dropouts. If you are going the fixie route, this one is probably an OK bike to use.

You might not wanna dump too much money into the build, you may regret it down the road. You may wanna clean it up and sell it, and use that money to buy a lighter frameset you like more.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but in the new book, The Competition Bicycle, there's a story about Huffy sponsoring the 7-Eleven team that Andy Hampsten rode for in the mid/late eighties, but that Serotta actually built most of the team bikes. The frame of Andy's Serotta team bike broke in the spring of 1988, so Andy had John Slawta of Landshark build him a new frame made from ultralight Tange Prestige tubing with walls that were just 0.4mm thick at the ceter of the tubes. This was the bike Andy used to win the 1988 Giro d'Italia, and it had "Huffy" and "True Temper" decals on it.

Yeah scoop, from the little I know, the 7-11 huffy bikes command somewhat of a premium on ebay & the like
