Its confusing to me because my '88 has a crowned fork and no head badge (it has a decal) while this one has 'sloping crown' which leads me to believe its newer yet it has the traditional head badge. I dont think its a 'series' bike because it has Columbus tubing. |
Jim - I have an odd 87 with a sloping fork crown (not like the 87 catalog pictures) and an extra long top tube (58 cm top tube on a 56 cm frame). I have never seen one from this period with a headbadge. I am sure you already know that SLX started in 86 and the chrome chainstay ended in 87 (I think). Although it may be hard to tell from the picture, the yellow looks like the 86 brighter yellow, the 87 yellow was a darker and richer. What does the seat lug look like ??

Don't know about that vintage, but the 60s-70s one had Paramount on the headbadge I believe...

I have seen an early Waterford Paramount which used the the '60s-'70s Paramount headbadge. It was probably an '81-'82. My '83 has the Rainbow headtube decal. My serial number however, corresponds with the Chicago built ones with a month code Letter, followed by a 2 digit year followed by the frame number. It is on the left rear dropout.
That fork does not match the one on my '83. And my shifter cables run over the BB shell, not under it like the one you have pictured. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...rakeLevers.jpg |

Here is a picture of the fork crown from my 87 (560B WE87044). The seat lug is much beefier than years before, and the fork has more offset than my 86 or 88. Maybe some customization was possible ??
