Question about a trainer....

I got an older Cycleops mag trainer from a friend. I've never used a trainer. I was looking at the resistance adjustment, does something seem right/wrong with this? Is the lever supposed to move like that? Something seems a little "off" to me.

sorry IDK but I think the road racing forum might be a better place to ask this

I posted it in there, those guys keep ignoring me...lol

oh, lol, well I don't know then...goodluck anyhow. maybe take it to your LBS and ask?

I'm a little unclear on specifically what you're asking about, which lever and how is it moving currently?

I've got a similar mag trainer at home, Minoura or Cyclops maybe?, and is has a screw/knob to position the spinning hub in or out to adjust friction against the tire, then mine also has a small lever that rotates or slides (depending upon how you define things) to adjust the amount of resistence in the mag unit.

Plus the pic is a bit fuzzy.

Click on it, it's a video

Ah, okay, can't do that from here, will have to wait to click until I get home.

I would think the lever should "lock" in place.

Yep, now that I've see the video it appears that the lever catch is broken. You might still be able to use the trainer by using your gearing to get the necessary resistance. Throw your bike onto it and see if it has any resistance once you get it rolling. I'm not sure about fixing those apart from putting a belt drive fan on.

Belt drive fan? Why/how would one do that?

It works just fine by shifting gears to change resistance. I guess it'll have no adjustable resistance :-/

When you're cranking away a little breeze will be very welcomed to help cool you off a bit.

That's not me, nor do I know her, just a pic I found while googling images looking for a trainer with a fan.

Someday I'd like to have a set of Kreitler rollers with the fan unit.
