Another Campy Bike Saved From Goodwill

Walked in today and saw this sitting in the corner. Looks like someone upgraded the bike to Campy at some point including Record hubs, but didn't care for it anymore.. Mine now for next to nothing !

WOW!!! Please tell me it doesn't fit me.

Doubt that.

Interesting they put record hubs on it, and left schraeder rims.

btw - it does fit me, but I can't afford all the nice bicycles in the world that are my size.

I had a Raleigh Competition years ago and know from that that some of the Comps came with Campy, but you're probably right about this one as the SheldonBrown RetroRaleigh page shows a SuperCourse MKII as having Huret derailers.

I love these threads, but everytime I go into a Goodwill, I have the option of saving either a gaspipe Huffy from the eighties, or an even heavier modern aluminum Huffy from Walmart. <grumble grumble>

Most of the time all I find in Goodwill are trashed BMX bikes. I did find a women's Schwinn Suburban once but is was so ratty I couldn't justify the $40 they were asking.

Looks like the cousin to my emerald green Super Course MKII...although, as mentioned above, it's Huret, not Campy, equipped...

It appears in Southern California, there are enough Goodwill stores that the bikes get sent off to some central location right away, no one has been able to tell me what happens to them, same goes for Salvation Army, the local store got rid of their bike rack. Also, if one looks at the local craigslist, there are no great deals, sometimes it is amazing what folk are asking.

That is a sweet score. Coincidentally, today I finished up working on my '74 Super Course MKII in the same color scheme. No Campy bits on mine, just some French wheels and crankset and other assorted bits.

Is that set as a single speed or fixed? Very attractive Neal.

It's officially true! Neal really DOES have "way too many bikes" - and what a collection!

Have you been talking to the wife?!!

My SC MkII is set up as a single speed. I'm considering it making my winter commuter as I just ordered a pair of 700 x 35mm Schwalbe Marathon Winter tires. I actually don't have other bikes that'll handle that width in 700c (hmm, another bike to look for!).

Goodwill

I haunted the local Goodwill for over a year, and in all that time I saw maybe 5 bikes worth anything, and I bought one of them (an '87 Stumpjumper). The only other one I half regret not buying was an old Schwinn Sports Tourer in very good shape, but I'm not in to flipping bikes and I couldn't justify another road bike, even a Sports Tourer for $50. Someone down there must have some knowledge of bike value, because the all the bikes even marginally valuable go for $100 and up. The Schwinn was the sole exception I have seen to that.

One thing I've noticed is that different Goodwill and Salvation Army stores seem to stock different kinds of items. We have five Goodwills in town, and only two of them ever have bikes, even though the others are in neighborhoods that have lots of bikes. They must shuttle stuff between stores in town according to what each store's "mission statement" is.

Nothing un-fancy!! Thats a Carlton Frameset, with 531 Main Tubes! Are the brakes Campy as well, even the Internationals came with Weinmann brakes. I also agree that it looks upgraded, the dropouts don't look like Campy drops and the read derailer has an adapter claw.

Scores like this keep the thrift store dreams alive! I think we are all jealous so treat it right and clean it up nice!

Far as I know, Campag never made centerpulls

The SC-II came with a Huret/Nevar mix when new. The Cinelli bars are also an upgrade from GB's:

Funny thing - this particular build looks almost akin to something a present-day NR enthusiast might do to an SC.

Maybe it's likely that this N.R. group came from an trashed International frame at one point?

However it came to be, nice score!

Neal - you and Steppin are taunting me with those cool fix geared, upright style setups. Me want one. (looks over shoulder to see if the wife is watching me type this... good, she's not...)
