Klein (underrated?) - Pics for RT

Here's a sweet 1989 Quantum - a Chehalis bike - I picked up off my local CL last summer. It was in the possession of the second owner who bought it as a garage queen at a yard sale. My seller thought it a bad fit so he sold it to me shortly after acquiring it.

It was dirty and had raggedy original vinyl decals which came off easily enough. The rest of the bike, showing little use, simply underwent my usual military-grade refurbishment. Everything good they say about the durability of the Klein paint jobs is true.

Speaking of decals, since the originals were not clear-coated, I knew I could have some fun with the replacements, as you see them here. When I sell the bike (it's a bit small for me) it will be easy enough to install new originals for the purist.

Size 56 cm ctc, full Dura Ace; it's a beauty in the making. I had the camera out today so I thought I'd take a few shots. Only needs a chain and a test ride to be road ready. I know the seat looks high but it's set up for my long legs and there's plenty of post below grade.

Interesting serial number is Q00A0.

Hope you enjoy it. Double clicks get big pics.

Very, very nice. I would love to find an old Klein roadbike to go with the Pinnacle Elite I have been riding for a few years.

LOL!

You're a grown man. If you want to talk - just talk, mind you - I have too many bikes, among them another Klein frame which is just your size(ish).

If you like, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my number. I'm hesitant to say more here.

Nice bike. That must be one of the first generation Quantum models.

I have a 1983 Klein Performance. I bought it as a frame back and built it up. It has that press on decals that are getting a little ratty, too. I called Trek and asked about replacement decals. Trek doesn't have them and they have no idea where to find them. We're talking ZERO support. Nice people, but they don't know anything about Kleins.

The earlier Kleins have different decals that the newer Kleins. I've seen reporductions of the newer decals, but I've never seen the older decals anywhere. So I guess when the decals get so bad I can't stand it, I'll just remove them.

The decals show up on Ebay with some regularity.

Also, you've probably got a local graphics/decal company that can reproduce them for you.
