WOW I am I tired! I got fed up waiting for the GPS to charge, it wasn't charging plugged into the computer, so I went without it. Why do we have a USB system if nothing is universal? I get a multi port USB hub and 1/2 stuff works on it. I plugged the GPS in this morning using my KOBO cable and while the computer can read the data the stupid cable won't charge the GPS. It is simply maddening!!

I started out the same 42 mile loop as yesterday but out near Boiling Springs I took a left instead of a right in an attempt to add a few more miles and get a 45-47 mile loop. The road was nice but had a few real good hills, it is amazing how they can hide like that. I managed to make it along Petersburg RD back into Carlisle. After a... brief stop for some ice and power bar I was back on the road. It was getting pretty warm and muggy by then, around 1245ish so as I headed into Mechanicsburg I detoured to the Rutters for a another ice fill up. Then headed home.

Unfortunately since I didn't have my GPS I don't know exactly how far I rode. What's even worse as much I would rather not run across those hills again I feel I must to check the distance and the extra elevation from that route.

After the ride I put some crabby chicken in the crock pot and tinkered with the car a bit trying to install this lighting harness in Windstar, what a treat!

We have free libraries here too but they are a bit quaint and understated compared to the plush grandiose ones you have out west.

I did my commute again, as usual. It was hot, humid. Traffic has been abysmal all week, people feeling the angst from having been away from work too much in late summer, I guess. Halfway home I realized I was really tired, and I don't mean the kind of tire you put on a wheel. When I got home a Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale helped. What with the commuting and the 76 mile tandem ride this past weekend and the two rides on the Masi and way too many hours in a dentist's chair, this has been a rough week!

We live in a town with about 5 campgrounds, it's amazing how quiet it gets here when all the campers move along!

Jesse James Days century ride in Northfield Mn and the surrounding area. Was a long out and back sort of route, with the back mainly into the wind. Not too hilly. Fortunately two of the riders that I caught up with on the upwind leg were happy to form a small paceline, so that made things much easier for all of us.

Rode one of my favorite local routes.
Starts out up and over "Rocky Hill", which is heavily used as an exercise hill by walkers, runners, and cyclists.
Then back into "Yokohl Valley" which is just a nice country roud through the foothills with rolling hills and the ability to climb as far as you want and keep going.
I stopped at the "Oak Tree" which is just a marker that people use as a turnaround point (as I did today).
But on my way back, I decided to Climb "Capsu" instead of back home over Rocky again.

Anyway, a nice 30 mile ride that includes 1680 ft of climbing.

Fun trail ride today along the Fox River, west of Chicago. BF member Steve W. was burning the cobwebs out of his new acquisition - the mysterious French 'Criterium' by unknown maker. Neat to see his cool ride in motion.

A couple weeks back, My kids, their dog, and I went on a short bike camping trip. That week we were trying to cram as much fun stuff in as possible, before school started. We drove up to the east end of Lake Kacheelus and rode west along the Iron Horse trail. Since the dog was with us, the pace was pretty slow(no matter how tired she was, she didn't want any part of riding in the trailer).

We parked at a friends cabin, so we had to navigate a jeep trail in order to get to the Iron Horse. Some of it was not suitable for riding..



There's a reason it's referred to as 'Stump Lake'. This lake is used for irrigation in eastern WA farms. The water level rises at least 40-50 feet in the winter.



The dog had a tough time, but she slept well that night!



Thomas wanted me to snap a photo of this. Probably some hardware from the old railway.



We rode through the Snoqualmie tunnel to our campsite for the night. The kids managed to set up the tent just before sundown. No fires allowed, so we brought sandwiches and other cold food for meals.

the next morning I was, craving some hot coffee. My thermos wasn't looking out for me. The coffee I made before we left home was luke warm at best.. So we at some cinnamon rolls, packed it up and headed back east.





The tunnel is 2.3 miles long, and dark..







The trip ended up at about 20 miles. My kids are pretty excited to do it again on a longer ride, without the dog..

Just curious, do they allow stoves in there? That looks like a designated campsite which you probably had to reserve. Very pretty country and nice pics of it!

Yes Jim, camp stoves are OK. I have a coleman stove but I didn't bring it. We were only out for one night, and I didn't want to bother with packing stuff to cook with. Next time for sure though!

There are a few campsites along the trail. First come first serve. Just a few dollars a night. Where we stayed was not a designated camp site, but did have an outhouse.

Here's a shot of Mt. Si. We stopped in North Bend to do some grocery shopping before heading up the Pass.

I was thinking more of a backpacking-type stove, ideal for making that hot cup of coffee and maybe hot oatmeal. When we did our 3-day tour last year with some other BF folks we carried my old Svea 123 which can be seen in this pic:

Found ourselves on the Chippewa River State Trail again today. Rode in and around downtown Eau Claire. The river was really up and a lot of trail was closed due to water over the trail.
The Candy Corn Eddy Merckx rode like a dream but I'm beginning to think I prefer my Masi.

My daughter started the first of 8 Saturday soccer games in Yakima, WA today. The game was a blowout for them and rather boring but I was looking forward to my ride home. Told my daughter I'll take advantage of these Saturdays as much as possible. Had to deal with the worst foot problems in 2 months which meant stopping 4 times and then had a flat 11 miles from home (with an Armadillo tire, no less). So, while it was frustrating, I was still out there enjoying the sites of the Yakima River Canyon. Mid-80's, no wind - couldn't ask for anything more. I was hoping for 50 miles but ended up at 47 1/4.

The ride started on the Yakima Greenbelt MUP - there's some nasty tree root bumps on this thing hidden by the shadows. After 6 miles or so I was at the canyon:



Riding by this orchard of Honey Crisp apples - you could smell them. I really, really wanted one but passed.

They grew up in Yakima and skiing at White Pass. One of their cousins was my daughter's teacher this past year. It's a great little spot they have there.

For a camp stove I bought a little single burner MSR unit at Cabela's on sale. Check there also - they've got quite a bit for backpacking/hiking.

I spent yesterday cleaning and tuning up my commuter bike, but I managed to go for a spin around town late last night. Having a good headlight makes night riding so much more fun. Maybe I'll get a short ride in today, who knows.

Broke out the Pinarello today. It was getting jealous, I had been spending too much time on other bikes and the Pin is one of my oldest and the first Italian bike I ever bought.
